これが本当なら、朗報です！


Presidency Collegeはインドのチェンナイにあるマドラス大学に属するカレッジで、マドラス大学の母体となった大学なのですが、（多分同大学内にある…汗）インド文部科学省バイオ局（DBT：Department of Biotechnology）のBio Informatics Infrastructure Facility Centreからの報道によると…、




同センターは、来年末までにHSV1、2、それに水痘・帯状ヘルペスウイルス（VZV：varicella zoster virus）の新薬開発を完了する


ということのようです！


記事には、「新薬の開発には、インドの公的機関？（Department of Natural Products of the Indian Institute of Integrated Medicine）や他の大学も協力する」と書いてあるのですが、肝心の部分（つまり…、）

• どんな技術を使った薬なのか？
• 効果はどのくらいあるのか？
• 安全性は…？

などの疑問には全く触れていないので、正直なところ…、

「本当なのかなぁ…？」

と思っているところです…。

DBT's Bio Informatics centre to complete studies on antiviral drug by 2012

CHENNAI: The city-based Bio Informatics Infrastructure Facility Centre of DBT, Presidency College, is expecting to complete the studies on new drug for the treatment of the diseases caused by the HSV Type-1, Type- 2 and VZV viruses by the next year.

According to Dr S Rajarajan, senior scientist and coordinator at the Centre, a city-based drug manufacturing firm will soon conduct the post discovery clinical studies after the molecules are identified.

The HSV, VZV viruses are the originator of the major infectious diseases such as influenza, rabies, measles, various forms of diarrhoea, hepatitis, yellow fever, polio, small pox and AIDS. However, the study is based on the diseases caused by three particular types of viruses such as Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1, Type 2 and VZV (Varicella Zoster Virus).

As per Dr Rajarajan, HSV Type 1 causes herpes labialis (mouth ulcer) and herpes keratitis (infection around the eye). Herpes Simplex Virus Type 2 causes herpes genitilis (infection on genital organs among men and women) and Varicella Zoster Virus (VZV) causes chicken pox in children and herpes zoster in adults.

Moreover, the Department of Natural Products of the Indian Institute of Integrated Medicine, Jammu and the Pharmacology Department of the Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS) will also collaborate with the Bioinformatics Centre of the Presidency College, in the development of new antiviral drugs.
